The Book That Inspired 'The Secret'

How often does one thing galvanize the whole planet? Every two thousand years or so? Sometimes ideas impact our thoughts in just such a profound way. That’s exactly what Rhonda Byrne’s “The Secret” has done. “The Secret” is creating quite a stir with people and it seems to keep getting stronger and better.

There was one comment at the very beginning about getting “a glimpse of a great secret.” I didn’t give much consideration to that. Then I heard some people talking the other day about the book that gave her that glimpse! The book was written over 100 years ago and, like the purloined letter, has been sitting in the open ever since. Bob Proctor, a guru in “The Secret,” says it has been guiding him for over 30 years.

I got a copy of this self help book and started reading it, and it’s making changes in my life already! From a historical perspective, this book was written when many people were exploring new ways of looking at their relationship with life. Many of the New Thought pioneers like Edgar Cayce, Ernest Holmes and the Filmores were bringing new ideas to public awareness.

One of the profound topics in this self help book is that it is our duty to experience abundance in our lives| Although we read many explanations about spiritual abundance, many people still think it is the opposite of material abundance. In this book we learn that if we teach ourselves to think in a “certain way” we will learn to work with the “formative substance of the universe” to create spiritual abundance in our lives.

This is a list of some of the chapters in this book:

There Is A Science
The First Principle
Gratitude
Thinking In The Certain Way
Acting In A Certain Way
Getting Into The Right Business
The Advancing Man

Here are some of the precious gems from this book:

“It is perfectly right that you should desire to be rich; if you are a normal man or woman you cannot help doing so. It is perfectly right that you should give your best attention to the Science of Getting Rich, for it is the noblest and most necessary of all studies. If you neglect this study, you are derelict in your duty to yourself, to God and humanity; for you can render to God and humanity no greater service than to make the most of yourself.”

“There is a Science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches; once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man, he will get rich with mathematical certainty.”

P.S. Remember, this is not idle fantasy or unproven thoughts. Abundance is a state of mind Learn to be the observer who bends the formative substance of the universe to your will!
