Organisational Leadership: What Makes a Good Leader



Effective leadership isn't just about being able to create results. An effective leader must be able to great results by enlisting other people's help, cooperation and support. He has the vital traits to turn a dying company into a flourishing organization. He can alter the norms and tradition of an organization, because he holds the following traits:

SELF-DIRECTION

A successful leader has the ability to effectively and strongly direct himself. He has the ability to get things done, organize the tasks, and avoid procrastination. He is a person who doesn't want to waste time and stay idle. He has the ability to generate energy for different projects. He can keep his cool when he is angered. As the situation requires, he is able to make sound decision quickly. Also, he knows when to slow down and take all his options into account.

A great leader has thorough knowledge and understanding about his deep emotions. He knows himself well, including his abilities and limitations, strengths and weaknesses. This makes him unravel his full potential. He knows when he is overworking or when he is doing it smoothly and with balance.


SOCIAL AWARENESS

An excellent leader knows and understands the social connections within an organisation, as well as the individuals who are considered the strongest influencers in such social connections. He knows who the most powerful influencer is, unofficially and officially. He knows who can move the hearts of the people.

VISION

A good and effective leader works on goals that are larger than himself. It could be a small thing like successfully finishing a team project, or a bigger vision like putting an end to poverty. He works towards a significant something which is way more inspiring and motivating than with personal gain. His vision is always for the greater good, and for the benefit of as many people as possible.

INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION

A great leader does not lead by barking or telling the members of his team about what they need to do, rather, he applies strategies to make them be willing and enthusiastic to extend a hand and be more cooperative. But before he does so, he nurtures his own desire to help other people, because he is aware that when people feels his genuine desire to extend his hand, they in turn would have a desire to lend a helping hand.
